Can you compost salt without hurting the process, or environment?

Ideally, salt should not be used in a compost heap because salt kills many reptiles, (beneficial) insects, and other animals. Salt may also harm the environment because according to https://news.climate.columbia.edu/2018/12/11/road-salt-harms-environment/ "USGS pinpointed road salt as the source. Chloride is toxic to aquatic life, and even low concentrations can produce harmful effects in freshwater ecosystems. High chloride levels in water can inhibit aquatic species' growth, and reproduction, impact food sources, and disrupt osmoregulation in amphibians."

Salt in compost is also bad for worms because salt dehydrates them, which as a result will kill them. Worms are a beneficial, and useful compost aid. No worms = slower compost.
