An unknown driver has driven into a Littlehampton dad's car - which was safely parked - without stopping.
The incident happened outside of the Boots Pharmacy on Finisterre Way, Littlehampton, at around 12:30pm earlier this afternoon.
A driver has crashed into a Littlehampton dad's car, severely damaging his car door. The driver didn't even pull over to the side of the road after the collision, meaning he/she has committed a road traffic offence under section 170 of the Road Traffic Act 1988, as well as a separate offence of criminal damage. Not stopping after a collision is an offence and is called a "hit and run" under UK law.
The incident left the dad — who was already suffering with anxiety, stress, and family issues — severely distressed, causing him to have a panic attack when he got home to his son, wife, and cat. The dad said the incident "came as a shock and was completely unjustified". His family were "furious" with the driver.
The dad has contacted his insurance company, and they are contacting Boots to try and obtain CCTV footage of the hit and run so that they can prosecute the offender; however, the driver is likely to get away with the incident if no footage can be obtained as the dad wasn't in the right state of mind to get the car's license plate, and his wife was in the Pharmacy at the time the incident took place.
If anyone has any footage or information which may help the dad identify the driver or obtain evidence of the hit and run, please email LCN.
Please drive safely; more importantly, always avoid crashes if you can, and if you do crash, always pull over.
