Littlehampton dredging begins

Updated: Nov 25, 2021

Diggers start clearing the mouth of the #Arun.

Works started today on clearing the mouth of the river Arun as diggers stood either side and started dredging.

The old groynes aren't doing their jobs properly so the pebbles are forming shoal at the mouth of the river, according to an engineer on site.

Dredging the stones will keep the channel deep enough for boats to move in and out. It will also allow an important inspection of the harbour walls that could need maintenance.

The removed stones will build up and reinforce the existing beach either side of the harbour walls.
