An early election was granted by the Commons at the request of former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak just a few days ago on 4 July 2024 with Labour winning an overall majority in the HoC.
Labour won a total of 411 seats in the House of Commons, and the Conservatives won 121. The Liberal Democrats gained 72 seats in total. Reform won 5 seats in the HoC. Other parties also won seats in the House. This is according to data published online by the House of Commons.
Keir Starmer is now the Prime Minister of the UK, but his policies appear to be quite similar to those of the Conservatives despite him claiming to be a legitimate "opposition". We'll just have to see how well that works out over the next few years, won't we?
