Playing any ball game in a public place is lawful, except when the game is 'reasonably' deemed to be distracting to other motorists, for example, playing a game in the middle of a busy road.
A "No Ball Games" signs is advisory only, and is a request. These signs have no force of law in the United Kingdom.
Most commonly, elderly people, 'busybodies', and 'Karens' put these signs up, because they want to make other people believe they are not legally allowed to play ball games near them. These people often try to enforce the sign, however, they do not have any legal right in doing so, this includes the #police, security guards, and wardens, as well as any other officials.
