Could this be buses' substitute route?

A 700 Brighton bus took a shortcut through Church Street, Littlehampton, at around 7:55am earlier this morning to avoid roadworks.

The bus cut through Church Street so that its passengers didn't have to wait for the temporary traffic lights to turn green.

Taking this temporary route is much quicker during the roadworks. If 700 buses take this new route, they will still be able to stop at all of the 700 bus stops. It really makes no difference.

The bus rejoined East Street, Littlehampton, shortly after it turned left at the Church Street roundabout. Rosemead Park, East Street, is the next bus stop after Anchor Springs, Littlehampton. This means that, if 700 buses take this temporary route, they won't miss any of their stops.
