The public internet hotspots can be used immediately after payment/authorisation but will only work when users are in range of a BT WiFi router, the company has admitted.

Public WiFi is only safe when it is accessed with a virtual private network (VPN), and BT Wi-Fi hotspots are no exception. VPNs can be downloaded for free on both iOS and Android.
