Littlehampton Fish Stall causing a smell

Updated: Nov 24, 2021

A Littlehampton Fish Stall is causing a smell of raw fish to passers by and has many residents saying "it smells around here".

Copyright: Dwayne Hards.

The reason for the Fish Stall causing a smell down the River Arun is because they sell fresh, raw fish and, as a result, causes the surrounding area to "stink" of their catches.

Residents have said the smell is worse when the Stall is open and there's spell of hot weather.

The scientific cause of the Stall smelling is down to the dead fishes releasing bacteria and proteins which convert TMAO (Trimethylamine N-oxide) into trimethylamine (TMA), this is what causes the smell around the Fish Market.

I've never read such a load of rubbish in all my life! What is a fish stall suppose to smell like other than fish?

Residents are very much aware of what fish smell like, it's a fishing harbour.
