Labour's Madam Chowdhury could make new history for Worthing politics as she could be the first female Muslim mayor. She is already Worthing's first female Muslim councillor, and she will probably be the town's first female Muslim mayor on 20 May 2022.

Councillor Chowdhury attended the Northbrook Metropolitan College and has worked for the NHS and the Department for Social Security, and she has also done unforgettable amounts of volunteering and community work during her role as a councillor for West Sussex County Council.

Tarring Councillor Rita Garner, female, is set to become Worthing's new Deputy Mayor on May 20, 2022.

Labour now have a majority of seats in the Worthing Borough Council, and they aim to change the Conservatives' tradition of the deputy mayor becoming the next mayor to take office.
