Why do teenagers smoke drugs, or tobacco?

Updated: Aug 26, 2021

Many teenagers across Great #Britain smoke either drugs, or tobacco, but why?

Most of the teenagers who smoke drugs, and/or tobacco do so because they feel the need to 'fit in' with their peers. Teens who do drugs, drink, or smoke commonly do so because they are worried of being called a "neek".

A 'neek' is a slang term, which means "nerd", teenagers are worried of being called a "nerd" if they don't do drugs, drink, or smoke.

To stop teenage substance misuse, teenagers need to be educated on the risks of smoking, drinking, or taking substances, to ensure that they will not engage in such risky behaviours, effectively risking their own lives, and others as well.

One good way we can prevent teenagers misusing substances, is, signing them up to art competitions, street art events, and even boxing, or any other type of sport, which will keep them entertained, but in a safe environment.

"Parents should not control what friends their teens have because this is a form of parental control, and can cause them to want to rebel against their parents more than they originally intended, trust is key. Parents should only educate their teens openly on why they should not misuse substances, and have an open-relationship with their teenagers, without judging them," according to many scientific studies.

On the other note, "parents should control their teenager's friends in a calm, and peaceful way, to ensure they don't slip into the wrong crowd", according to other studies.
