  • Teenagers accused of abusing locals

A group of teenagers — including two boys and two girls — allegedly hurled abuse at families and their children earlier today, according to residents. Teenagers have been accused of verbally abusing locals on the Littlehampton seafront. They were also accused of threatening drivers, including: a white van driver. Teenagers were allegedly threatening to hurt a dad and his daughter, and he said he responded by telling them to "fuck off" and to stop abusing him and his daughter or he's going to "kick them down the promenade like a sack of potatoes". The teenagers seemed to be off their faces, residents have said. One of the teenagers was wearing a dark top and a pair of jeans, according to a Littlehampton resident. A local, who chose to remain anonymous, said he is concerned about the teenagers' behaviour, as some people — such as elderly/vulnerable people — can't stand up to the teens. If you were one of the teens (accused of the abusive behaviour), please email us so that we can give you a voice as well.

  • Fire sparks emergency response

Firefighters swiftly responded to a blaze outside Peacocks, Littlehampton, earlier this afternoon. The fire took firefighters quite a while to extinguish, West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service reports. Residents suspect the building was intentionally set on fire. Sussex Police are currently investigating the cause of the fire, and they have urged residents to avoid the area until the investigation has finished. No-one appeared to be seriously injured at the time the fire took place. However, this is not 100% certain. Those who saw the fire take place should contact the police via their website. • Locals left fuming over Portsmouth bus lane trials

Many people have expressed their concerns over private hire taxi drivers being given the thumbs up to use Portsmouth's bus lanes without the fear of being fined or prosecuted. The trial is currently being decided by the City Council, and locals are awaiting answers and much-needed reassurance. A soon-to-be trial may allow Portsmouth-insured private hire drivers to use the city's bus lanes. However, many people — including councillors, locals, and politicians — have attacked the idea, saying it puts cyclists at an increased risk of being hit by the private drivers. Private hire taxi drivers will still be liable if they crash into cyclists (if it's their fault), according to police officers. The decision has faced intense backlash from many people, particularly cyclists. Although the idea will benefit many people, the City Council should still ensure vulnerable road users — such as cyclists — are protected from harm. This should be the Council's first priority, not making money, according to locals and politicians. Those who would like their views published can contact Littlehampton Community News via email.

  • Children loved Armed Forces Day — and so did their parents

The children of Littlehampton seemed to enjoy the Town Council's Armed Forces Day event, which took place in Littlehampton on Saturday, 25 June 2022. Soldiers were showing the children of Littlehampton what equipment the Army use, or have used, when fighting for our country. The children seemed quite interested in the soldiers' equipment. They also seemed to enjoy engaging with the cadets/soldiers. Soldiers supervised local children while they safely climbed onto a display-only aeroplane. The children stood on the plane's wings, and their parents took some seemingly-nice photos of them having fun with the soldiers/cadets. Everyone seemed to enjoy the Armed Forces Day Event, particularly the younger children and their parents. Given everything our Army have done for us and our country, please show them some well-deserved respect by simply saying thank you on your favourite/most-used social media websites, such as: Facebook and Twitter. The Army will appreciate this — and so will most people who happen to come across it. Remember to tag the British Army in your post, as they'll be more likely to see it if you tag them.

Hopefully, tomorrow will be a nicer day to enjoy some time on the beach.

  • Comment & Analysis: Army cadets interact with young people

Army cadets were seen engaging with young people — including toddlers, children, and teenagers — in a positive manor, and this put smiles on many Littlehampton residents' faces. The cadets were engaging with the young people at the Littlehampton Armed Forces Day event. It was nice to see the young cadets engage with our young people. The cadets engaged with the young people in a calm and respectful manor, and they were showing amazing discipline. Parents seemed to be amazed at the way the cadets engaged with their children — and so did the soldiers. The cadets deserve a reward/treat for interacting with the young people in such a positive way, in my opinion. The cadets' behaviour was so amazing that it was actually shocking (in a good way) to watch. I wish the cadets the best of luck, and I hope they manage to join the army one day.

Residents had the opportunity to buy their own food/drinks at the event, as there were many food and drink stalls at the event. Everyone seemed to be having fun at the Littlehampton Armed Forces Day. This is not the only article I'll be writing about today, so please do keep an eye out for my other soon-to-be articles.

  • Men banned from entering women's swimming competitions

Men — who claim to be transgender — have now been banned from taking part in women's swimming competitions after FINA's vote, according to Manchester Evening News. The new gender policy was introduced after a successful vote at the World Championships in Budapest. Some argue that banning transgender men (men claiming to be women) from taking part in women's swimming competitions is discriminatory and/or morally unjust, while others argue that transgender men still have the same strength as men whether they claim to be transgender or not, meaning they're more likely to win the competition. FINA have promised to introduce a fairer way for people to enter their swimming competitions, such as: introducing competitions where all are welcome to participate regardless of their gender identity. However, some people have strongly criticised the idea.

  • Comment & Analysis: Drivers threatened with fines for doing the right thing

The UK Government is threating drivers with fines for something as simple as driving into a bus lane to give way to an emergency service vehicle. Councils are being given authoritarian and unfair powers to fine drivers when they're doing the right thing; for example, running a red light to make room for an emergency vehicle or entering a bus lane so that the emergency vehicle can pass. Giving councils these powers is a stupid idea, as some drivers will refuse to move for emergency vehicles so that they don't get slapped with a £100 fine, and this may result in many deaths. While I agree that drivers should be safe when letting an emergency vehicle pass, I don't see how it's "unsafe" to drive into a bus lane so that the vehicle can pass; in actual fact, it's more unsafe not to drive into a bus lane when there's an emergency vehicle behind you. The Government needs to be stopped, as they're becoming too powerful. We live in a free country, not a fascist state.

  • Here's how to write Fathers' day correctly

You must always capitalise Fathers' Day when you're referring to the official holiday. When you're writing Fathers' Day, you must always use an apostrophe after Fathers (before Day), as this holiday belongs to every father in the world, not just one. When you're writing about something that more than one person owns — for example, students' grades are getting worse every year — you must, in most cases, use an apostrophe after the group's name (after the s); for example, weed is teens/chavs' favourite thing to smoke. However, if you're writing something that only one person owns — for example, Dwayne's a gay chav, and he's proud to admit it — you must use an apostrophe after the person's name (before the s). Remember to write your Fathers' Day cards correctly, people. This will likely help your dads understand them.

  • Life: Teenager runs to catch a bus

I — Dwayne Hards, aged 14 — ran from Worthing Pier to the South Street bus stop so that I could catch the 9 Arundel bus to Beaumont Park, Littlehampton. The walk from the Pier to South Street usually takes around two or three minutes. However, I managed to run there in less than 30 seconds. The 9 Arundel bus driver was impressed with my running, and she told me my run was "impressive" and "speedy". I didn't know I was this good at running until today.

  • TikTok trend leaves teenager with injuries — again

A 10-year-old school girl — who uses TikTok — has severely burned herself after she copied a 10-second TikTok trend, according to Manchester Evening News. The "sensible" 10-year-old girl sprayed her hands with deodorant until they felt too cold for her to tolerate. However, instead of her hands feeling cold, she ended up with serious burns and a trip to her local A&E. The girl may need plastic surgery amid the severity of her injuries. However, she may have to wait for up to two years until she gets an appointment. The girl's mum is urging people not to take these trends seriously. TikTok seems to have caused many people — usually teenagers — two types of harm, including: physical harm and psychological harm.

  • Police forces continue to crack down on knife crime

Those carrying knives are putting themselves at risk of being arrested by the police, according to police officers. The small minority of knife-carrying individuals are now at a serious risk of being slapped with a criminal record, a prison sentence, and/or an unlimited fine. Those caught in possession of prohibited weapons — such as knives and screwdrivers — can be sent to prison for up to 4 years, and those who use their weapons may be spending the rest of their lives in a prison cell. Those caught carrying prohibited weapons may also receive an unlimited fine. Carrying a knife is illegal whether you claim "self-defence" or not, as this is no excuse to be in possession of weapons. Those who claim "self-defence" are clearly intending to use their weapons. Carrying a knife shows that you're scared of others — in other words, it means you're a complete pussy (coward), in my opinion. Most teenagers in the roughest neighbourhoods don't carry knives, as they don't want to be thought of as pussies.

  • Comment & Analysis: It's about time the UK put cannabis on the market

Selling cannabis on a regulated market would benefit millions of UK citizens in many different ways. Over the past few years, around 29.6% of UK adults — aged between 16 and 59 — admitted to smoking weed at least once in their lifetimes, according to Statista. However, it is currently unclear as to how many teenagers (aged under 16) have admitted to smoking weed, as children can't legally provide their consent to participate in ONS surveys; however, the number would, without a doubt, be quite high. Regulating cannabis would provide millions of UK citizens with a safer way of purchasing their weed instead of relying on dangerous drug dealers and criminal gangs. Our young people also need a safer way of getting hold of certain age-restricted products; in other words, teens are just putting their lives at risk to get ahold of cannabis and age-restricted products, so a change to the law would lessen the unnecessary risk to teenagers' safety and would make them feel more independent. Regulating cannabis would save the UK Government billions of pounds a year, according to The Week. It would also help our economy recover after UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson's attack on our rights and the economy. Dangerous drug dealers would lose most of their profits, and they would, therefore, struggle to continue with their criminal activity and their exploitation of our young/vulnerable people. This is because most people would use the cannabis market to purchase their weed. Regulating cannabis is unlikely to result in those using the market to try harder drugs. This is because, when cannabis is sold on the market, no harder drugs will be sold. This means the market's users won't have the option to purchase harder drugs, and criminal gangs' profits would take a massive hit; therefore, less people will use hardcore drugs, such as: heroin and cocaine. Those using the would-be cannabis market would actually know what they're buying instead of trusting their unaccountable drug dealers and being given a harder drug, such as: spice. Alcoholic drinks and some medically-prescribed drugs have been scientifically proven to be less beneficial, and even more harmful, than cannabis. Cannabis can actually help with many illnesses, such as: pains, cancers, and PTSD. Putting weed on the market would make those who use it feel more accepted in society, as they won't be as scared of the police — even though the police don't tend to enforce this "law" — or the lowlife snitches who grass them up. It's about time the greedy and corrupted Government regulates cannabis and gives its citizens what they truly deserve. The Government's "opposition" — Labour — also need to pressure its members into opposing the Tories' clearly-failed drugs policy.

  • Man arrested in London

Hundreds of people shared their appeal on social media, and this helped officers find and arrest the man. Police arrested the man — who lives in Kent — yesterday morning. • Comment & Analysis: America must ban guns soon. Here's why

America must stop its citizens from carrying guns to prevent any more innocent Americans from losing their lives. The fact that millions of American school children are having to live in fear of being shot dead in their own classrooms is unbelievable, and that's just one of the few reasons why the United States of America must ban guns as soon as possible. One American schoolgirl, who survived a school shooting in Texas, had to cover herself in her friend's blood to avoid being killed, according to a CNN news report. Incidents like this happen all the time in the USA, and this causes countless amounts of US citizens to lose their lives every single year. America's excuse for its overly-relaxed gun laws is "the constitutional right to carry a gun" despite the Constitution also stating that individual states have the right to protect their citizens' rights, such as: the right to life and liberty. One part of the US Constitution cannot be used to argue another, and this is why the Americans are in a never-ending debate about whether guns should be made illegal once and for all. Ban guns, America: do the right thing for your country's citizens. Doing this will, without a doubt, save countless amounts of Americans' lives.

  • Comment & Analysis: Plane spotting has kept me occupied

Watching aeroplanes has kept me busy over the past few months when I had hardly anything else to do. Plane spotting has distracted me from many of my negative thoughts and emotions, and it has given me something to do. When I'm unable to enjoy plane spotting for whatever reason, my mood changes big time; everyone around me can usually notice this. When I couldn't enjoy plane spotting, I usually went to sleep instead.

  • Dwayne Hards: A guide to starting plane spotting

You will need to have talent, patience, and a high-quality camera if you wish to capture stunning images of aeroplanes flying in the sky. Before you dive into the world of aviation photography, you should be 100% sure the hobby is for you so that you don't waste your money. Aviation photography can cost a fortune — and so can any other type of photography. When you're sure the hobby (plane spotting) is for you, you'll need to purchase a high-quality camera, as you'll need to be able to zoom thousands of feet into the sky. Click here to view the camera I bought. You will need to have plenty of patience and determination when you're capturing photos of planes, as you won't always be able to capture decent photos of planes, especially during your first few months of plane spotting. However, after you've gotten used to your new hobby, it'll suddenly become much easier, in my experience. You'll need to be prepared to fail sometimes, as you won't be able to take good pictures of every plane that flies past you. However, it doesn't matter if you can't snap a picture of one or two, or even three or more, planes because many more will fly across your spot. As long as you don't give up, you'll get some great pictures of planes. You will fail every now and again, but this is normal. To enjoy some time out plane spotting, you will need to go somewhere open where planes fly over, such as: a garden, a field, an airport car park, or anywhere else where planes fly under 30,000 feet. Please be sure to comply with local and national laws regarding where you're allowed to visit and where photography and/or visitors' access is strictly prohibited. I hope you enjoy your hobby (if you've decided it's for you)! If you would like some more information regarding plane spotting, please don't hesitate to email LCN.

  • Review: YouTube

I watch many videos — including drill music and skits — on YouTube, and I enjoy watching most of them. YouTube provides its users with a variety of different content — including family-friendly content. However, YouTube does, at times, suggest I follow topics I've never shown an interest in; for example, religion. When I'm watching YouTube videos, I am often forced to watch many 5-second adverts, and this can be quite frustrating for me. If YouTube starts suggesting content its users are actually interested in, this would be a massive improvement. Another good improvement YouTube could make is reducing the amount of adverts it forces its users to watch. I would rate YouTube a 7/10.
