  • County roads closed amid serious incident

Sussex Police are currently investigating a road traffic incident — which reportedly happened during the early hours of Monday morning on the A27 — near Arundel, officers have confirmed. Emergency services were in attendance to an incident where a driver rammed a police car that was parked on the A27 with its emergency lights brightly flashing. It is currently unclear as to whether the driver was distracted or not. However, according to investigating officers, this is being investigated and should be revealed soon. Vehicles were practically unable to move, as drivers — who were planning to use the A27 — had to find an alternative route, resulting in several traffic jams throughout the counties of Sussex, Surrey, and Hampshire. Local bus services were also delayed with some delays lasting longer than 5 hours, resulting in several bus journeys being cancelled altogether. Several people were injured during the collision and have been transported to A&E by paramedics. We (LCN) hope all injured parties are safe and well enough to be released from the hospital soon.

  • How to stay safe on public WiFi networks

Hackers can easily see what you do on your device while you're connected to a public network, and they may even be able to gain access to your device altogether. Free WiFi hotspots are usually provided by businesses and public places but can also be maliciously set up for criminal purposes — such as hacking. Those using public WiFi networks can keep themselves both secure and protected by using a virtual private network (VPN). These are easy to use and can either be purchased online or downloaded for free from your preferred app store. To find out more about these, please talk to someone you trust, such as: a teacher, colleague, friend, or family member.

  • West Sussex: Where can bus passes be used?

Locals are only entitled to off-peak bus travel in West Sussex but can still use their WSCC passes anywhere in England during the locally/nationally permitted times, a Stagecoach South bus driver has revealed. Different bus operators interpret the local/national travel restrictions differently with many drivers letting people on irrespective of time. However, each individual company has its own policies, so residents shouldn't expect to be allowed to use their passes during the prohibited hours while outside of West Sussex. English bus passes are not able to be used outside of England or on private bus services, according to Stagecoach. If you feel that you would benefit from free bus travel and/or cheaper train fares, please contact your local council to discuss your elegibility. Alternatively, if you live in London or another major city, you may be eligible for a freedom pass — which would entitle you to free bus, train, tram, and tube travel within London — from TfL. Freedom passes can be used as English bus passes if they display a red rose.

Councillors met up in the Town Council offices earlier this evening and discussed their different viewpoints in a calm, respectful, and professional manor. A young Journalist, I sat at the press table and observed the Council meeting until it was time for me to leave — which was around 50 minutes after it had started. And, shortly after I was seated, several councillors sat in their respective seats, and some of them even greeted me in a way that made me feel welcome. They calmly debated their ideas and opinions, and everyone treated eachother with dignity and respect in accordance with the Town Council regulations and the meeting rules. The Littlehampton Town Council offices are councillors' go-to place where they can meet up and discuss their views with their fellow councillors and the Town Mayor. In the Council-owned building, the rooms were quite tidy and well looked after.

  • Emergency services rush to Littlehampton incident

A man was airlifted to hospital yesterday afternoon following a crash on a stolen motorbike. Yesterday morning, a young lad informed both the police and his community that his 125cc motorbike had been stolen. Just an hour later, the man — who stole the lad's bike — had an accident at the Clifton Road junction at around 1pm (yesterday). An eyewitness said: "As the rider approached the junction, he checked behind him and lost control of the stolen bike. He skidded across the road and hit a wall." Two ambulances were first to arrive on scene with paramedics administering CPR on the severely injured man, who had life-threatening injuries. Around 5 minutes later, a fire engine arrived to help the paramedics and clear up any debris and petrol. Several police officers also arrived on scene and were desperately trying to disperse the crowd of worried bystanders and witnesses. A police officer shouted at the crowd, demanding they "move away" and "give the man some privacy". An air ambulance arrived on scene — landing behind the War Memorial — and safely transported the man to hospital. The owner of the motorbike was in attendance and said: "I hate the man for stealing my bike, but I wouldn't wish this on anyone."

However, they haven't uploaded much useful information — such as the date and time of the robberies — about the robberies, making it difficult for anyone to come forward.

  • Opinion: LCN's Founder spreads positivity

I — Dwayne Hards, LCN's Founder — have been positively engaging with the people of Littlehampton earlier this morning. Locals seemed to enjoy talking to me about their pets, morning routines, and bus schedules, as well as how they managed during the COVID-19 pandemic. I also enjoyed talking to the amazing people of Littlehampton. I helped one local with the 9 Arundel bus times, and I spoke to another about their seemingly nice dog. I also said good morning to many of our residents, and most of them said good morning back to me. I'm finally starting to see that most of our locals are nice people, as it's only a small minority of people who ruin the town's reputation for everyone else. I would like to ask residents to continue treating others the way they'd expect to be treated. I would also strongly urge locals to look out for those around them. Doing this will result in many happy people and may also earn you some much-needed respect.

  • Teenager threatened in Littlehampton

A 14-year-old boy was threatened and verbally abused by an abusive male earlier today — and so was his tutor. The man began abusing the boy after he dropped a small piece of paper over a fence — which was full of litter — outside Iceland, Littlehampton. The 14-year-old boy and his tutor were being prevented from walking away from the abusive male. The violent man assaulted the two victims whenever they tried to walk away, so they told him to "fuck off" and leave them alone. The boy's tutor called the police amid the man's extreme and unnecessary behaviour towards them. After the boy got home, the police had to be called so that officers could calm him down by talking to him, as he was getting violent because of his ADHD and the abusive man's behaviour towards him. The police officer was able to calm the young lad down in seconds because of his nice personality. The man's violence, abusive behaviour, and threatening attitude was totally unnecessary. The boy only dropped a small piece of litter over a fence, so the man should have had a quiet word with him instead of abusing him and his tutor. The police condemned the man and his actions, saying his behaviour was unacceptable and that he had no right to assault, imprison, or abuse anyone, especially when they've done nothing seriously wrong. Police are currently investigating the incident. As soon as the young lad started filming the man, he began trying to justify himself and was lying about his actions. The Littlehampton RNLI Shop's staff kindly allowed the young lad to stay in their shop until the man left the scene. Although dropping small amounts of litter is technically illegal, it is hardly ever enforced by police officers in Sussex amid the lack of public interest. A citizen's arrest can only be made by a member of the public if someone has committed a serious criminal offence, such as: assault or being in possession of a bladed article. A citizen's arrest cannot be made by a member of the public if someone has committed, or is about to commit, a petty offence, such as: smoking weed or dropping small amounts of litter.
